Aluminium 5082 is an aluminium-magnesium alloy that typically contains 4.0–4.9% magnesium, 0.2–0.6% manganese, along with small amounts of iron, silicon, chromium, and other elements. This unique composition offers outstanding corrosion resistance, particularly in marine settings. The alloy is known for its good weldability and moderate-to-high strength. Its mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 270–350 MPa, a yield strength of about 145–200 MPa, and impressive elongation, usually between 10–16%. These characteristics make 5082 ideal for high-stress applications that require both formability and long-lasting performance, especially in environments that are chemically aggressive or exposed to saltwater.

Aluminum 5082 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and enhanced fatigue resistance, making it ideal for custom forgings in marine, aerospace, and structural applications.
The forging process for Aluminium 5082 typically takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the part, size, and the specific forging method used.
Aluminum 5082's workability, characterized by good machinability and medium strength, allows for easy shaping during forging. However, its relatively low work hardening rate may require careful temperature control.
Aluminium 5082 forgings are a go-to choice in industries that need a combination of lightweight strength and resistance to corrosion. In the marine world, they shine in shipbuilding, making up components, hulls, and superstructures. The automotive sector also relies on 5082 forgings for parts like chassis, structural frames, and elements designed to withstand crashes. In aerospace, this alloy is prized for its use in interior fittings and non-critical airframe components. You’ll also find it in pressure vessels, military vehicle parts, and storage tanks. With its fantastic weldability and formability, Aluminium 5082 proves to be a versatile option for applications that demand reliability, durability in tough environments, and a long lifespan with minimal upkeep.
